Car Warranty Question....Please Help?
Does this seem right?
A 2003 used car purchased for $8000, with a 90 day warranty that covers the engine and transmission. Extended warranty available for purchase.
Should the car come with a longer warranty, or is that standard for a used car?
Most used cars do not even come with a warranty so 90 dyas is a bonus.
Most times the extended is not worth it. I have seen 2-5 year warranties for $1000' of dollars. A lot would have to break before you reach what you spent and there is a deductable.
Used cars and longer warranties
The Warranty Group today announced that the emergence of longer manufacturer warranties on new cars will mean that used cars will also have to come with longer term warranty packages. The firm pointed out that this will happen as part of a long term trend to make the used car buying experience as close to new purchasing as possible, this will especially be the case for manufacturers and larger independent dealers.
Ian Simpson, sales and marketing director, said: "The continuing shortage of used cars and the resulting increase in prices mean that buyers are, effectively, getting less for more. As a result, dealers of all kinds are having to look at ways of making their used car proposition more attractive and increased warranty provision is one solution. Customers have been voluntarily opting for longer and more comprehensive warranties since the start of the recession so building these products into the standard used car offering makes some sense."
There is added pressure on used car warranties ever since the launch of manufacturer warranties which overlap used cars as well, schemes like Vauxhall's life time warranty and Kia's 7 year warranty programs have pushed the need for better used car warranties.
For the consumer this is great news, as it means that they will get a lot more peace of mind with their used cars in Aberdeen, unfortunately used cars tend to have the urge to breakdown soon after purchase so this will definitely help boost customer confidence.
