Extended Service Contract

Extended Service Contract

Can a phone company extended service contract without the consent or approval?

I received my cell phone bill in the mail and says "thanks for the renewal of contract for another 24 months." I did not renew the contract, I bought a new phone ... payment in cash. I did not ask for a contract, nor do I approve or sign any documantation. is this legal??

Possibly. Have you read the fine print? Some companies have policies for automatic renewal unless specifically requested not to renew (which is how he ended up paying for the March Madness package on Direct TV. Did not even know I had until it was over ... another $ 70 down the drain ...). Also, if you upgrade your phone, at least with Cingular, is expanding his contract.
