GM's Defective Speedometers Incite Lawsuits

Mr. Kevin Zwicker felt that something was wrong with his Chevy Suburban 2004, no itâ ™ € s wasn € ™ t about the GM grilles, but the speedometer when it indicated he was traveling at 10 mph even though you were driving at or near the speed limit on Interstate 5.

Mr. Zwickerâ € ™ s speedometer has failed completely in April 2006 but unfortunately General Motors refused to replace the defective speedometer stating that the truck was no longer covered by three years, 36,000 miles warranty. Mr. Zwicker has purchased an extended warranty that paid $ 100 for a new speedometer and not the regular price of $ 400 to $ 500.

Mr. Zwicker who is currently living in Snohomish is the lead plaintiff in a federal lawsuit seeking damages on behalf of other persons also have complaints about GM vehicles. The lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court Seattle is sufficient to cover all complaints Washington residents who purchased GM trucks and SUVs from 2003 to 2007 and, as Mr. Zwicker need their defective speedometers replaced.

Mr. Zwicker has commented that although he is an experienced and careful driver that driving is uncomfortable not knowing how fast it goes. â € OEI donâ € ™ t think itâ € ™ s just that a large manufacturer such as GM can let something like this happens and not give some serious thought.â €

A similar lawsuit was almost filed this week in U.S. District Court in Oregon by John Hall, who said he paid $ 427.50 in January to fix the speedometer his defective 2003 GMC Envoy LE. According to Beth Terrell, an attorney for the Seattle law firm of Tousley Brain Stephens representing Hall and Zwicker, the demands of Washington and Oregon are called action status. The suits currently cover are five models from Chevrolet to know, and Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe and Trailblazer, GMC and four models € "Denali, Envoy, Sierra and Innovation Award, and a Cadillac Escalade.

Terrell said he may soon follow suit in other states, but at present there is no plan to consolidate the cases into a single national suit against General Motors. â € œWe think it makes sense to prosecute GM in each state, on behalf of that residents.â stateaid € ™ s €

According to GMA € ™ s spokeswoman, the company will not issue no official statement on the cases filed against suspected until you have seen these demands. The lawsuit filed on behalf of Zwicker is asking for three types of compensation and these are:

1. replacement of all defective speedometers of the affected models
2. reimbursement for those who happened to have his speedometer replacing defective
3. reimbursement for those who have paid speeding tickets caused by faulty speedometers
4. reimbursement of insurance rates, which have increased as a result of excess speed caused by GMA € ™ s faulty speedometer

The legal filing includes quotes from 19 complaints to be published on the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other sites that show the alleged problems with GM speedometers. U.S. District Judge John Coughenour has been assigned the case and decide whether to certify the lawsuit as a class action.
