the aftermarket water temperature gauge and sending unit ...?

i have an 89 Honda Civic 3dr hatchback style wit a 1.5ltr. 4 SPD. Manual trans. and my temperature gauge went out and did not give any reading. I know if I could buy any temperature indicator aftermarket and would that work as an alternative to temperature indicator values. wats and the whole concept of these gauiges of anyway. I read bout to send units of adapters, etc, etc. .. wats all this and how a labor market and as an indicator of temperature or install. languages and sold all necessary equipment for installation of these languages type. is only possible for someone to recite it Urself easy installation type This is not to mechanically inclined and not so fortunate financially.
