Getting ready to buy a 2004/2005ci 3-series - Warranty questions?


I am looking at a few cars between '04 and '05, most have between 40-50k miles and are around $20k. I would really like to find one at a certified BMW dealer for the 6yr/100k warranty but that is proving very difficult. I have found a few on carmax that I like and elsewhere but I want to be sure that it has some kind of quality warranty.

Is there a way to buy a BMW then get it "certified"? If such a thing were even possible/reasonable to do and it became certified, would that mean that the CPO warranty of 6yr/100k would be in effect?

The closest certified bmw I found, which was in my price range ($22k or less) and mile range(like 50k max) was in New York!

Are there any options I can take advantage of that I haven't found? Like buying it from carmax and getting their warranty(which I heard sucks)? Just looking for some good advice on this!
